This month, Honeycomb Group is delighted to welcome Staffs Housing customer Maria as one of our newest involved customers.
Maria joined our involvement team after spotting our recent Involvement Week campaign, instantly recognising it as the perfect opportunity to put her years of experience and passion for people into meaningful action.
A lifetime of supporting people and communities
As a retired social worker, Maria is no stranger to advocating for others. Throughout her career she supported individuals and families through some of life’s toughest challenges, homelessness, domestic abuse, and navigating housing difficulties. Her background has given her a deep understanding of the barriers some customers face, as well as the importance of safe, well-maintained homes and supportive services.
Maria describes herself as a “people person” with a strong drive to help others. Since moving into her home over two years ago, she’s already been a pillar of support within her neighbourhood, listening to neighbours’ concerns, helping to advocate for them, and encouraging them to speak up when something isn’t right.
“If you never tell your landlord something’s wrong, they’ll never know.”
Maria is a passionate believer in the power of honest communication. She’s always taken a proactive approach to reporting issues, sharing feedback, and recognising when things are working well.
Her combination of professionalism, diplomacy, and lived experience makes her a fantastic addition to our customer involvement network.
Diving in and making an impact
Maria recently attended her first involvement meeting, and she’s already feeling at home.
“Everyone has been so welcoming. I found the session incredibly informative, and I can already see where I’ll fit in. I’m excited to use my personal experience to help shape real change.”
She’s particularly eager to understand what goes on behind the scenes and ensure that important information is fed back to her community, helping others see the positive work happening to improve homes, services, and neighbourhoods.
