A new collaborative bringing health and domestic abuse professionals together has launched in Derbyshire, led by our domestic abuse support provider, Glow.
The Derbyshire Domestic Abuse Health Collaborative (DDAHC) was established by Glow's Health IDVA to strengthen connections between health services and specialist domestic abuse support across the county.
The group held its first meeting this month, bringing professionals together to learn more about each other's services, share expertise and explore how they can work more closely together.
Creating stronger connections
Healthcare professionals can play an important role in recognising domestic abuse. For some people experiencing abuse, an appointment with a GP, nurse or another healthcare professional may be one of the few opportunities they have to speak to somebody outside their home.
By bringing health professionals and IDVAs together, DDAHC aims to build stronger relationships between services, increase understanding of domestic abuse and make it easier for professionals to know what support is available and how they can connect someone with it.
The first meeting focused on introductions, understanding the different services represented and starting conversations about how organisations can better support one another.
Glow IDVA Service Manager Gemma Thomas said: “Health services can be such an important place for someone experiencing domestic abuse to be seen, heard and offered support.
“Our Health IDVA has done a brilliant job bringing people together through DDAHC. By helping health professionals and specialist domestic abuse services understand each other and work more closely together, we can create clearer routes into support for people who need us.”
Following a positive first meeting, DDAHC will continue bringing professionals together to share knowledge, strengthen relationships and improve the response to domestic abuse across Derbyshire.
