New safe homes offer lifeline for domestic abuse survivors in Stoke-on-Trent

We're so proud to share that local people overcoming domestic abuse in Stoke-on-Trent now have greater access to safe accommodation and tailored support, thanks to our brand-new scheme.

Each year we transform the lives of thousands of local people through affordable housing, domestic abuse refuges, tenancy sustainment and 24/7 supported housing schemes.

The latest scheme, delivered by our domestic abuse specialists Glow, is no different. The scheme, located in Stoke-on-Trent, provides five safe, high-quality self-contained apartments for individuals and families. There’s a mixture of one and two-bed homes, alongside wraparound on-site support from a team of specialist workers, providing guidance as they move towards a brand-new chapter.

The launch of this scheme is also part of a significant year of investment for us here at Honeycomb Group, as we've launched a total of 25 new supported homes across the city. This includes safety and security for domestic abuse survivors, young people with care experience and people working to start a new chapter after facing homelessness.

Donna Boon, Service Manager at Honeycomb Group, will oversee the new safe accommodation scheme. She explained more: “We know that leaving an abusive relationship can be the most dangerous and difficult time for a survivor. These homes provide more than just a roof over someone’s head - they offer a chance to heal, to feel safe, and to start again.

“Every element of the scheme has been designed with safety, dignity and independence in mind. Survivors will have access to wraparound support, from emotional guidance to practical help with things like finances, housing and supporting children. This kind of accommodation and support is a lifeline - and in many cases, a lifesaver.”

The five apartments are situated in a discreet location in the South of the city and were developed in partnership with a socially-minded local landlord, bringing previously empty buildings back into use. Each home is self-contained to promote independence, while offering on-hand support tailored to the needs of each resident.

Kerry Birtles, Executive Director of Support and Wellbeing at Honeycomb Group, added: “This scheme reflects the heart of our work - providing safety, stability and support for people when they need it most. Survivors of domestic abuse deserve a future free from fear. These homes offer that, with high-quality, specialist accommodation that meets people’s needs both emotionally and practically.

“It’s part of a much bigger picture for us. This year has already been transformational, and we’re proud to be investing in local people and places in a way that has real, lasting impact.”
