Turning loneliness into togetherness: Honeycomb Group’s Befriending service

Befriending Week (6)

This Befriending Week (1–7 November), we’re celebrating the volunteers and staff who make our Befriending Service, delivered by our home support provider Revival, such a success.

The service, which launched in April, connects people who are isolated or alone with compassionate volunteers who provide regular, face-to-face companionship - helping people live independently and confidently in their homes and communities.

Befrienders Sian and Nayram

And for our Befrienders, it enables them to build new skills and experience, as well as increasing confidence.

Since launch in April 2025, the Befriending Team has delivered:

  • 223 hours of befriending support
  • 12 volunteers matched with 13 customers
  • 2 customers connected to ongoing external support

And behind these numbers are real stories of impact.

“I think this is an amazing scheme,” said Colin, a Revival customer who has been working with Befriender Nayram. “People like me like to meet people who are young and want to learn about our lives. I’m going to miss my visits when the 12 weeks are up.”

Another Revival customer, Tayyaba, shared: “My Befriender was really kind - it’s helped me put my past behind me and focus on what makes me happy.”

And our volunteers have shared how rewarding their experience has been. Befriender Sasha has worked with customer Maragret, a talented artist, who stopped painting due to a dementia diagnosis. After a few sessions, Sasha and Margaret began painting again together.

Sasha said: “I’ve had an amazing experience. Spending time with Margaret has been a pleasure, and the support from Honeycomb Group has been above and beyond.”

The service is going from strength to strength and we’re proud to highlight the positive impact this Befriending Week.

Thank you to every volunteer, customer, and colleague who helps us turn loneliness into togetherness. Together, we’re building stronger, more connected communities - one conversation at a time.
